RICHMOND, Va. (November 2, 2018) – UNCW junior Phillip Goodrum was named the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Player of the Year, headlining the conference’s postseason awards. Hofstra’s Sean Nealis was selected the CAA Defensive Player of the Year, while Delaware’s Timo Hummrich was voted the CAA Rookie of the Year. After leading James Madison to the CAA regular season title, head coach Paul Zazenski was tabbed the CAA Coach of the Year by his peers.
Nealis led a Hofstra defense that boats 10 shutouts in 18 matches. From Sept. 6-Oct.6, Hofstra owned an eight-match shutout streak, at the time the best active streak in the country. Nealis played 1,593 of Hofstra’s 1,693 minutes in the regular season, adding a goal and three assists from his central defender position. Nealis joins Hofstra’s Madeline Anderson in giving the Pride a sweep of the CAA’s Defensive Player of the Year honors.
